Carter, Ackerman in Double Figures in Loss at Cal Monday

BERKELEY, Calif. — Freshman Mary Carter recorded her second straight double-double and Natalia Ackerman extended her streak of scoring in double figures to start the season, but Cal Poly fell on the road Monday at PAC-12 foe Cal 70-64 Monday.
Carter finished with 12 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Ackerman continued her strong start to the season, also scoring 12 points on 6-9 shooting. She has now scored double digits in each of the Mustangs' (1-3) first four games of the season.
Junior Sydney Bourland added eight points, freshman Jordan Hoffman scored seven and graduate Ania McNicholas chipped in six points for the Mustangs, who shot 46-percent from the field.
However, Cal Poly committed 33 turnovers which the Golden Bears (3-0) turned into 37 points and had 14 more shot attempts. Cal got out to a 10-2 lead four minutes into the game and led 29-12 after the first quarter.
After trailing 42-22 at halftime, Cal Poly went on a 10-0 run over the final three-and-a-half minutes of the third quarter to cut the deficit to 10 heading into the fourth. However, Cal opened the fourth with a 10-2 run to go back up by 18 which the Mustangs were unable to recover from.
Cal Poly will face No. 6 Stanford on the road Thursday at 7 p.m.
