Mustangs Return Home to Host Idaho State Saturday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After playing its first two conference games of the season last week, Cal Poly women’s basketball returns to non-conference play when hosting Idaho State Saturday.
Tip against the Bengals is set for 2 p.m. inside Mott Athletics Center. Tickets can be bought at GoPoly.com/tickets. The game will air on ESPN+ with links to that as well as live stats on GoPoly.com.
Cal Poly has two players who rank in the top seven in the Big West in scoring. Sophomore guard Vanessa McManus leads the Big West and is 16th in the country at 20.9 points per game. She has scored in double figures in seven of eight games, including over 20 four times. She also leads the team and is sixth in the Big West in rebounds at 6.1 per game.
Meanwhile, freshman forward Charish Thompson is having an exceptional start to her college career. She is second on the team and seventh in the Big West in scoring at 15.1 points per game. That ranks fifth in the amonst all Division I freshmen. She’s been one of the most consistent free throw shooters in the country, leading the Big West and is 12th in the nation at 92.6 percent (50-54).
Idaho State comes into Saturday’s game 5-4 overall. They are coming off a 68-59 road loss at BYU Thursday. They started the season off 4-1, which included a win over UC Irvine. They are led by Tasia Jordan’s 16.4 points per game. She has scored in double figures in eight of nine games this year. This will be the sixth all-time meeting with Idaho State, the first since 2002. The Bengals lead the series 4-1.
Following Saturday’s game, the Mustangs hit the road for four straight games. They will start that stretch Tuesday, Dec. 16 against No. 4 UCLA at 7 p.m. on Big 10 Network.
