De Los Santos Finishes Third, Cal Poly Fourth in Father Higgins Classic

LAKE LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Cal Poly claimed fourth place in a strong field of 14 teams competing in the Father Higgins Classic hosted by Loyola Marymount at the Reflection Bay Golf Club.
The men's team of Cal Poly's Swanson Golf Program finished the suspended second round with a 295 total, then posted its best round of the 54-hole tournament with a 291 Tuesday for a 13-over-par 877 aggregate on the 7,261-yard, par-72 layout.
UNLV claimed the team title with a blistering 30-under-par 834 total with rounds of 274, 277 and 283. Saint Mary's was second with a two-under-par 862 total, followed by UC Santa Barbara at 871.
Mustang junior Justin De Los Santos, the individual leader when play was suspended due to darkness Monday after most players had finished 30 holes, completed the second round with a 72 and carded a 74 in Tuesday's final round for a four-under-par 212 total and third place.
John Oda and AJ McInerney, both of UNLV, shared first place with eight-under-par 208 totals. Oda produced rounds of 67, 70 and 71 and won a playoff for the trophy. McInerney carded a pair of 68s and a 72.
Cal Poly's Cole Nygren (pictured above) also placed in the top 10 with rounds of 74, 70 and 70 for a two-under-par 214 total and seventh place.
Other scoring Mustangs include Court Lewis, tied for 23rd place with three rounds of 74 for a 222 aggregate; Jesse Yap, tied for 46th place with a 229 total following rounds of 77, 79 and 73; and Sage Casaga, 78th after an 82, 87 and 84 for a 253 total.
De Los Santos led the field with a pair of eagles and Lewis also had one for the Mustangs. Nygren was second in the tournament with his 15 birdies and third with his 3.00 scoring average on the par-3 holes. De Los Santos was seventh in par-4 scoring at 4.03 and fourth in par-5 scoring at 4.50.
Cal Poly returns to action Feb. 19-21 at the Wyoming Desert Classic, to be played at the Classic Club in Palm Desert.
