
Luke Adam of St. Joseph High School in Santa Maria carded a first-round 70 with 16 pars, a birdie and a bogey on Thursday at The Goodwin.
Adam Leads Cal Poly on Opening Day of The Goodwin

STANFORD, Calif. -- Luke Adam of Cal Poly posted a par round of 70 on the opening day of competition in The Goodwin on Thursday at the Stanford Golf Course.
Adam birdied the 168-yard fourth hole, bogeyed the 447-yard fifth hole and parred each of the remaining 16 holes, sharing the 20th spot on the leader board with 17 other golfers.
Adam's performance helped the Mustangs to a tie for 18th place with UCLA among 28 schools competing in the three-day, 54-hole tournament with four-person 12-over-par 292 totals.
Host Stanford leads the way with a five-under-par 275 aggregate on the 6,727-yard, par-70 course, there shots ahead of second-place Arizona State. Denver and San Diego share third place with 279 totals.
Topping the individual leader board are Blake Hathcoat of Saint Mary's and Sam Harned of Nevada, each with seven-under-par 63s. Jackson Solem of Denver is third with a 64.
In addition to Adam, Cal Poly's other scoring golfers are Joey Zambri with a 71 for 37th place, Tanner Podres with a 75 for 88th place, Austin Liu with a 76 for 100th place and Will Draper with a 79 for 131st place.
Podres and Adam are tied for fifth in par-3 scoring at one under par. Adam leads the field of 146 golfers with his 16 pars and Zambri is second with 14.
Second round will be played Friday with the final round on Saturday.
