SAN LUIS OBISPO – Six days after handing Pacific a 5-0 exhibition defeat, the defending Big West regular season champion Cal Poly men’s soccer program visits No. 13 Stanford on Saturday, Aug. 16 in its final preseason tuneup.
Kickoff from Laird Q. Cagan Stadium is 7 p.m. with live stats available HERE. Cal Poly enjoyed five different goalscorers in its Sunday exhibition triumph at Pacific.
Returning all five All-Big West selections from last fall along with nine starters, 18 letterwinners and 79 percent of its 2024 goal production, Cal Poly was selected second in Thursday’s Big West Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Additionally, Mustangs claimed four of the 11 spots on the Big West Preseason Coaches’ Team with senior Nicky McCune (2024 Big West Goalkeeper of the Year) selected alongside junior Parker Owens (Defender of the Year), sophomore Quinn Mahoney (Freshman of the Year) and junior midfielder Diego Guerra (All-Big West first team).
Cal Poly last met Stanford for a 2024 exhibition with the Cardinal prevailing through two second-half goals. Stanford, which reached the third round of last year’s NCAA Tournament, has already defeated San Francisco (2-0) and fellow Big West foe Cal State Bakersfield (2-1) in exhibitions.
Following Saturday’s exhibition fnale, Cal Poly opens the regular season with a Thursday, Aug. 21 visit to San Jose State.
Cal Poly matched the program's highest showing in the Big West Preseason Coaches’ Poll Thursday while a record four Mustangs were selected to the Big West Preseason Coaches’ Team.#RideHigh
